Who is your favorite historical figure?

Julius Caesar

Born Gaius Octavius around 100 BC, Julius Caesar rose to prominence as a Roman dictator and powerful statesman. The Roman populace respected and stood by him because of his reputation for writing and speaking. Caesar was an attorney who served as an army general and Pontifex Maximus, among other roles. In the Roman Republic, he held prominent political roles and served as the governor of Gaul. Caesar disobeyed the orders of the Roman Senate and remained strong and self-assured in the face of persecution. Following his victories in wars, he proclaimed himself Dictator for Life. But two months later, he was brutally murdered by his peers, changing the course of history forever. Caesar is still a well-known figure in pop culture and history texts, therefore his influence endures today.
